Pick a card, any card...

I don't know where you live, but here in Massachusetts it seems like winter is coming early. I'm hoping it's just a bit of a cold spell, but if the weather is keeping you inside, here's a workout that will help get you warmed up:

What you need:

  1. Pack of cards

  2. Medicine ball

That's it! Ready to get started? Start off with a 5-10 minute warm-up. I like to do a mix of jump rope, planks and some kind of bodyweight exercise to get those muscles flowing.

The workout itself is pretty straightforward. Each suit represents a different activity. Check out the video below for examples.

  1. Hearts: Situps with medball toss.

  2. Diamonds: Striders with med ball twist.

  3. Spades: Cross climbers with medball.

  4. Clubs: Bicycles with alternating med ball weaves.

The number on the card represents the number of reps. Face cards (Jack, Queen or King) are worth 11. Aces are worth 15. For those exercises that include a right side and a left side (like the striders), doing one on each side counts as one. In other words, if you pull a 4 of spades, you'll do eight total reps.

The video shows each exercise. On the striders I started off with lunges and then transitioned to striders so you could see two variations of this exercise.

If you pull a joker, do one minute of burpees. And....go!
